Ideas for settings

I've been thinking about where I want to set my lightbox and how it's going to interact with the surroundings, I rediscovered these idents used to promote The Warehouse Project, a seasonal night club in Manchester, for it's 2010 season.

This made me think of the stairs of Newton which are lit up at night, which could be a prime location to set up.

Monday

Light box

I've started creating a light box, shown here in the first stage with no foil or coloured cellophane inside, although I do like the effect on its own without adding the colour. The fact that you can see the edges of the inside of the box (the orange parts at the side of the 'S') show that this experiment will need some tweaking before the final outcome but hopefully in the right setting I can get it looking how I want, experimenting with colour and different sized lettering.

StartUp factory report

While looking into what I wanted to create I was looking at production companies and as I was researching I realised I much prefer to analyze these companies rather than to create my own. Which brought me to think of magazines and how they are changing with the new digital medias. We were shown a digital magazine in a tutorial which was an app in which the articles were clickable and they brought up videos and other media. This is the kind of route I'd like to go down with my company, I already have knowledge of these as I read digital issues myself so research will be to look more in depth at these existing apps and how they work.

For my digital magazine I'd like to focus on culture - the arts and music, as there is so much interactive content which could be included it seems like the obvious choice as that's also where my interests lie.

More boredom took over..

The bottom two were just messing about cause I got my tablet back so felt like doodling ;) u know the scorrrre (they ARE supposed to have a childlike quality to them, its experimentation ;) )

Boredom took over

and this was the result.

I absolutely hate how blogger completely ruins every picture that goes on it. Need to sort that out sharp.

Interactive Narrative

I've been playing about with flash here and there since we got the brief, and broke the template about 20 times since we got given that.. Not good. Not feeling flash at all.. I came up with a narrative based on the theme of superstitions initially -

  • 1. Start screen would begin with a dove
  • 2. Frame would show the dove being covered in black paint which has been left on a ladder/scaffolding (if you walk under these its supposed to be bad luck)
  • 3. Dove would then turn into a magpie because of the paint
  • 4. User will have the option to make a friend or not (magpies 1 for sorrow, 2 for joy)
  • 5a. If user chooses to have a friend then they go shopping for shoes.
  • 6a. Then goes home and puts the shoes on the table (bad luck)
  • 5b. If user chooses no then the magpie/dove goes for a walk and it begins to rain.
  • 6b. Magpie/dove runs indoors and someone puts an umbrella up indoors
  • 7b. Rain stops and magpie leaves and steps in dog poo on the way home
I think this narrative gets a bit flimsy though towards the end, and I don't know how I would go about animating it all, since right now, flash is not my friend..
This was my original little bird creation cause I made it white later. But then I ended up changing my idea pretty much all together. I redid the bird cause I didn't like that one, it didn't have the look I wanted for my animation, so I made this one -

Then started messing about with it, giving it tattoos, top hats and monacles...

So on that note I've decided that my animation is going to be a set up like this -

The user can choose from a variety of different birds in different outfits, clicking previous, next to navigate, then if they click choose it puts the bird in a setting.
It has no plot but this is only narrative, so its ok ;) ?
